A variety of music, a little CCR sound, some intense and passionate singing, mixed with clever and sometimes angry lyrics gives this album real distinction over Fogerty's previous effort of Deja Vu, which was a pretty darn good album in it's own right. And what about Revival.
Turns out I was right. That's a shame really.
I predicted that a lot of the one star reviews on here for John Fogerty's latest album, Revival, would be because people didn't want to hear his political views. And for me it's still possible to enjoy music without necessarily agreeing with the artist's message.
I guess I must be one of the lucky ones who can listen to Lynard Skynard as well as U2. That's one of the great things about music; people can use it to state their views.
As my title states, I find it to be one of the best albums of the year. This one is his slam dunk.And if there are any Cheap Trick fans reading this who are on the fence with Revival, consider this album to be Fogerty's "Rockford."
It is as if CCR has never left the building. His voice is wonderful to listen to, and he is clearly a great artist. If you, too, are a CCR fan, this CD is a must-have.
I was so happy to hear that wonderful voice that hasn't changed over the years. John can still rock with the best of them. To quote one of the songs "you can't go wrong if you play alittle bit of that Creedence song." Every track is enjoyable.
The opener "Don't You Wish It Was True" has an infectious beat and spins a smile with its good time feeling, "An angel took my hand, said you don't have to hurry, got all the time in the world, don't worry." "Creedence Song" boogies to a swamp groove, "Daddy had a band, played him a little guitar, traveled in a band, living that rock & roll, night after night, people coming up to the bandstand saying you can't go wrong if you play a little bit of that Creedence Song." "Broken Down Cowboy" is a sweet slower song with Fogerty's classic vocals, half snarl, half heartache, "You never can trust your luck, he's bad news in a pickup truck." The under two-minute "It Ain't Right" bursts like old time Chuck Berry. John Fogerty's "Revival" finally found its way to my changer. It explodes with energy. Four of John's tracks are my very favorites. This is a must-have CD. Fogerty goes back to basics & sounds incredibly fresh and relevant.
While the minute-and-a-half political eruption "I Can't Take It No More" doesn't bother me, it's so brief that it flies by. Wow. There are no weak songs on the disc. Irma Thomas recorded "River Is Waiting" on her Simply Grand CD. The track perched at #1 in my personal top ten this year. "Revival" highlights John Fogerty at the top of his game.

I really like this music and the sound is very respectable as well. Instead of playing the same music over and over, the classic rock stations should have put this music in rotation.
